Why Attend our 3rd Annual Orphan Conference?

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:  to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.  James 1:27

The Word of God makes it pretty clear that we, the Church, are to care for orphans.  What’s not so clear is how we are to do that. And that’s what our conference is all about – equipping God’s people to walk out James 1:27.

Whether God is moving on your heart to adopt or foster, or you’re looking for tangible ways to help make a difference in a waiting child’s life, this conference is where you start.  If you or your church are looking for ways to get involved in effective orphan ministry – this event can be the catalyst.  It’s also a place for adoptive and foster families to come for encouragement.

The Orphan Sunday Blend coffee will be brewing as the morning begins with worship and a welcome from JFO Executive Director, Sandra Flach.  Our foster care key note speaker is foster/adoptive mom, Rebecca Chaires. Rebecca has experienced every aspect of the foster care system and even teaches foster parent training classes.  Associate Director, Mary Slager will share on practical ways we can help orphans beyond adoption and foster care.  A box lunch will be offered for $5 each and during lunch informational booths will be open.  After lunch Pastor David Arruda will be presenting on Orphan Sunday.  A presentation  on the climate of international adoption will be followed by an update from Sergey Slager – former Ukrainian orphan and now missionary to the orphans of Ukraine.  Our global orphan care session will feature Every Orphan’s Hope & Sweet Sleep.  Our day ends with a Q & A panel where you can ask questions of foster/adoptive parents and professionals.

Doors open at 9am, there is no registration fee but a free-will offering will be taken.  The first 20 people through the door will receive a free copy of Becoming Home:  Adoption, Foster Care, and Mentoring – Living Out God’s Heart For Orphans by Jedd Medefind.   Informational booths will be hosted by Albany County Foster Care, Cross Culture Market, Northeast Parent & Child Society, Parsons Child & Family Center, Orphan Sunday, Every Orphan’s Hope, Sweet Sleep, St. Catherine’s, The Heart Gallery, Justice For Orphans, and more.
