Love In Action 2016

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.  1 John 3:18

Imagine walking through a field and you stumble across a crying baby, all alone, lying on the ground – what would you do?  Would you say to the baby, “I’m praying for you,” “Jesus loves you,”  “someone will help you,”  and then turn your back and go about your  business?  I  trust most of us  would pick up that baby, begin the mama bounce, and  attempt to hush the child in comforting tones, “there, there, it’s ok, I’m here…”  We  would glance around  to see if a parent was nearby, but no one is around for miles.  We would wrap our own coat around the baby to  comfort him.   We’d  begin thinking, how I could feed this child?   We would begin to care for this vulnerable baby.  We wouldn’t just care about this child;  we would give this baby care.

James 1:27  – Pure and faultless religion in the sight of God our father is this:  to care for orphans and widows in their distress…     The biblical mandate is clear –  care for orphans.

In our communities there are fields upon fields of the fatherless in foster care.   In NY State there are 23,924 kids in care with over 800 of them in  the Capital Region alone.   The good news is that there are 14,767  churches throughout the state.  JFO is seeking to rally the Capital Area churches to care for these American orphans.  We understand adoption and foster care are callings and not everyone is called to bring this mission field into their homes. But, according to Scripture – we are all called to give care.  There are countless ways local churches can roll their sleeves up and give care to kids in foster care and the adults who give them care on a daily basis.

Join us for our annual Love In Action brunch on Wednesday,  May 25, 2016, 9am-noon at Loudonville Community Church in Loudonville, NY.   Hear from a line-up of NY pastors and leaders who have stepped-up for vulnerable children in our communities.  Listen to testimonies from local foster families and former foster youth and meet local agency professionals. Find out how you and your church can give care to children, families, and child welfare workers.
