H.I.S. Home For Children – Haiti

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:  to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.  James 1:27

The chorus to Matthew West’s song Do Something says:

If not us, then who
If not me and you
Right now, it’s time for us to do something
If not now, then when
Will we see an end
To all this pain
It’s not enough to do nothing
It’s time for us to do something

Well, Do Something, is exactly what Hal and Chris Nungester of Ohio did in 1999 when they saw the dire plight of the orphans in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  They established H.I.S (Haitian-Interdenominational-Shelter) For Children – an orphanage currently home to 80 orphans in 3 houses:  a main house for little ones and young girls displaced due to the 2010 earthquake, a boys home for school age boys, and a special needs house offering 24 hour care.

For over ten years, H.I.S. HOME for CHILDREN has developed a multi-faceted approach to meeting the needs of the children of Haiti. Their main focus has always been to address the safety and spiritual needs of these children by introducing them to the love of their savior, Jesus Christ. They also strive to meet their physical needs through shelter, medical care, proper nutrition and education.

The Nungester’s, adoptive parents themselves, have a heart to see orphans find families.  H.I.S. Home also partners with America World Adoption Association to facilitate legal adoptions of children from their orphanage.  To learn more visit their website at H.I.S. Home For Children, or check out America World Adoption for information on international adoption.
