Celebrating Our 200th Episode of Orphans No More!!!

We are so excited to celebrate the 200th episode of our radio program, Orphans No More!  It amazes us that we’ve been on the air for 4 years now.  As JFO was being birthed our mission was clear:  defend the cause of the fatherless by advocating for Christians to adopt, foster and care for orphans & families.  Almost immediately the Lord opened the door to this radio show opportunity.   Our team realized that Christian radio combined with social media would be an effective way to inspire, educate and equip the body of Christ to walk out James 1:27.  With virtually no experience in broadcasting or communications, we stepped through the door by faith and here we are 200 shows later.

Our show director and host, Sandra Flach (executive director of JFO), has had the privilege of interviewing  foster and adoptive families, agency professionals,  and orphan ministry leaders locally and nationwide.  Thanks to technology and the creative skills of WDCD producer, Kenneth Burns, the team has interviewed guests from around the globe as well.

In honor of the 200th show former cohost and cofounder of JFO, Mary Slager, joins Flach for the celebratory episode.  Slager stepped down from the show 3 years ago but hasn’t retired.  At age 72 she and her husband still have a houseful of children.  They recently adopted a boy they had been fostering and continue to foster and provide respite.

Orphans No More airs Fridays at 1:30pm EST on The New Light WDCD 96.7fm or 1540am Albany, NY, and can also be streamed live from the station website.  The station also rebroadcasts each show Sundays at 10:30am and Wednesdays at 1:30pm.  Past episodes of the broadcast, including the 200th show from August 11, 2017, can be found right on this website by clicking on “Radio Show” and then “Orphans No More.”  Give a listen and let us know what you think!

Empowered To Connect Parent Training

Empowered To Connect Parent Training is an interactive learning experience specifically designed for adoptive and foster parents and is based on the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) model developed by the late Dr. Karyn Purvis,  author of The Connect Child, and her colleagues at TCU Institute of Child Development.  The training is taught from a Christian perspective and reinforces the fact the we are all made in the image of a loving, relational God who has created us to connect in relationship – both with Him and with others.

We at JFO are pleased to announce that our very own co-founder and Executive Director, Sandra Flach, and her husband Wayne are certified Empowered To Connect Parent Trainers.  Flach says, “We are thrilled to be able to offer NY families this excellent and imperative training.  As adoptive parents with 30 years of parenting experience, we know what works and what doesn’t.  We’re not perfect parents.  We’ve parented our adopted children the wrong way for years, but now thanks to ETC we have the right tools and they work.  ETC Parent Training brought hope and healing to our family and we want to bring the same to others.”

The Flach’s are available to bring the 9 week ETC Connect Course to area churches so local foster and adoptive parents can access this training.  Foster families can also earn training credit hours.  If you’re interested in taking the Connect Course and/or hosting it at your church email sandraflachjfo@gmail.com for scheduling details.

GIVING TUESDAY

Justice For Orphans is an all volunteer-run  nonprofit ministry working to inspire, educate and equip the Body of Christ toward adoption, foster care, and wrap-around ministry.  A huge part of what we do is our weekly radio program, Orphans No More, which airs on local Christian radio.  We are nearing our 200th episode!  All of our past shows can be heard right from this website.  Our team also hosts conferences, speaks at events, works with the local foster care community, leads Orphan Sunday and trains foster and adoptive families in parenting kids from hard places.  We have seen a tremendous amount of fruit this year as children will be spending their very first Christmas in their forever family!  And we also hear from so many families who are encouraged to continue the hard work of foster care and adoption because of JFO.  In order to continue this movement into 2017 we need your support.  Would you please consider a gift of any amount to help us help vulnerable children and families?  Thank you for your generosity.  We at JFO wish you and your family a very blessed Christmas and New Year!

ORPHAN SUNDAY – November 13, 2016

Defend the cause of the fatherless. – Isaiah 1:17

On Orphan Sunday, November 13th, 1000s of Christians of every denomination in every state across the U.S. and believers in 84+ countries globally will be standing on this One Day with One Voice for One Purpose – to defend orphans, foster kids, and vulnerable children everywhere.

Orphan Sunday (an initiative of Christian Alliance For Orphans) is a way for every follower of Christ to walk out God’s mandate in James 1:27 to care for orphans in their distress.  All around the world, orphans are hungry, homeless, voiceless, without hope, and without love.  And it’s not just a need that exists only in far away places and over-seas orphanages – it’s a need right here in every community across America.  Nearly 400,000 U.S. kids are in foster care with over 100,000 of them available for adoption.

The problem is huge but it can be solved.  We at Justice For Orphans are on a mission to rally the Church for the cause of these vulnerable children.  We inspire, activate, educate and equip the Body of Christ to meed this need through adoption, foster care, wrap-around support, and global orphan initiatives such as Orphan Sunday.

Join us on Orphan Sunday as we celebrate adoption, foster care, and ministries that reveal God’s heart for the least of these.  Our JFO team will be participating in Orphan Sunday events at Abounding Love Christian Fellowship in Ravena, NY and Rock Solid Church in Hudson, NY.  If your church is not observing Orphan Sunday this year you are welcome to join us at one of these local events and lift up vulnerable children in prayer on 11/13.   Be sure to get Orphan Sunday (2nd Sunday in Nov. annually) on your church calendar for next year – 11/12/17!

A father to the fatherless…is God in his holy dwelling.  God sets the lonely in families…”  Psalm 68:5-6

Join us For: ORPHAN CONFERENCE 2016

Did you know that there are approximately 163 million orphans globally?  Or that there are over 300,000 kids in the U.S. foster care system?  Did you know that NY State has more than 25,000 kids in foster care – some of the highest numbers in the country?  And over 1,000 of them are right here in the Capital District?  Did you know that it is YOUR responsibility to do something about it?

Six years ago I didn’t know these things either…and I was an adoptive mom of 5 kids.  We began our journey because God led us on it and we stepped out in faith.  But, after preparing an Orphan Sunday event at our church and learning not only the statistics but also the Scriptures – I began asking, “Who is doing something about this?”  I knew if, as an adoptive mom, I didn’t know, then the people sitting next to me in church did not know either.  This is how Justice For Orphans was born.  And this is our mission:  To rally the Church for the cause of the fatherless – To educate & inspire Christians toward adoption and foster care – To support & educate foster & adoptive parents.

Pure and faultless religion in the sight of God our Father is this…that we must care for orphans…James 1:27

If you would like to learn how you can walk out James 1:27 then join us on Saturday, October 22nd in Rexford, NY.  Come be encouraged and equipped to protect the fatherless through orphan ministry, adoption, and foster care.  Details and registration on this website here.

Together We Rise – Local Foster Care Fundraiser / Orphan Sunday Project

In partnership with Abounding Love Christian Fellowship of Ravena, NY, we are collaborating to raise $2,000 to provide Sweet Cases to local foster kids.  When a child suddenly enters foster care they often lose everything they had.  If they are able to take any personal belongings with them they are usually stuffed into a garbage bag.  Sweet Cases are new duffle bags filled with a hygiene case, a blanket and a teddy bear.  For every $25 raised – a Sweet Case will be sent to us.  From now until October 9th we will be raising funds to purchase as many Sweet Cases as possible which we will in turn donate to Northeast Parent & Child Society in Catskill, NY.  All the bags will be on display at Abounding Love on 11/13/16 – Orphan Sunday, and then they will go to local kids in foster care.  To donate any dollar amount go to this link:  Togetherwerise.org/fundraise/aboundinglovechristianfellowship
