Calling Christians to Foster Care

There are over 400,000 children in the foster care system in the United States.  Over 20,000 of them are in New York State alone.  Approximately 250,000 children enter the foster care system each year. Of the 400,000+ waiting kids, 100,000 of them are available for adoption.   And yet, there are over 350,000 churches in the United States.  If one family from each church stepped up and answered God’s call to care for orphans by taking one or two of these kids, there would be zero children in the system waiting for homes.  It’s not the government’s job to care for orphans.  God makes it very clear in James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:  to look after orphans and widows in their distress…  that it is the Church’s job!  We would like to challenge you as individuals, as families, and as churches to pray about what the Lord would have you to do on behalf of the fatherless.  God will answer, and there will be something He will lead you to do.  Would you consider becoming a foster parent?  Go to our Foster Care page to find links to local agencies that can help you take the first step.  We invite you to tune in to our radio show Orphans No More on Friday 9/13 at 1:30pm or on Sunday 9/15 at 10:30am on The New Light WDCD 96.7fm (stream live online too) to learn more about how you can become a foster parent!
